Obligations of a student in receipt of U.S. Financial Aid
Please be aware that you become legally obligated to repay your loan when you sign a Master Promissory Note (MPN) and that you remain liable to repay the loan even if you do not complete your studies or are unable to find employment.
Please also be aware that the amount of federal aid you are awarded might not necessarily cover your entire tuition. In such a scenario, it will be your responsibility to ensure all outstanding amounts on your tuition fees account are paid in full before the stipulated due dates. The balance on your tuition fees account can be viewed through OASIS.
In accordance with the conditions agreed to on your, ‘Application for U.S. Financial Aid’, you must notify the University Fees Centre when any of the following occurs:
- You change your address, name, phone number or email
- You withdraw or take an approved leave of absence (LOA) from your studies
- You undertake a study load that is less than the equivalent of being enrolled on a full-time basis
- You change your graduation date
- You make any changes to your FAFSA
Apart from the scenarios listed above, you are also required to immediately notify your lender when any of the following occurs:
- You change your Social Security Number
- You change your driver's licence number
- You change your references
- You change your permanent home address
- You change your current or anticipated employer
The University Fees Centre will contact you to complete an online Exit Counselling session when you are completing, withdrawing or nearing the completion of your studies. You will also be contacted when you have dropped to less than half-time enrolment or have taken an approved leave-of-absence from Curtin University. Please note that failure to complete Exit Counselling will neither exclude you from repayment of your loan nor extend the grace period for repaying your loan. Choosing not to complete Exit Counselling will also prevent you from graduating from the university.
